It’s amazing how much changes from year to year in Downtown Austin. I only make it to Sixth Street a few times a year and it always shocks me, so it must be a huge change for those who just come down for SXSW.

Seeing how the American Poster Institute enabled the mutual interests of poster artists in the U.S., a handful of industrious Brits got together and started the UKPA. I chatted up one of the founders of UKPA, Graham Pilling, and got the low-down on the poster contingent from across the pond.

Some of the world's best gig posters will be on display at Flatstock, Fri. and Sat. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center. Free and open to the public.

I had two main highlights of SXSW Music Thursday. One was attending a tequila tasting and the other was seeing a band with a name that conjures up pretty disgusting imagery. The downside was trying to bike up Congress Avenue, north to south. Holy crap, that hill sucks.

I thought I'd cruise the town on my bike and see what the SXSW madness looked like in tilt-shift time-lapse video.

First I happened upon Guitar Shawn and a buddy playing atop a van outside the Continental Club.

It’s easy to get caught up in which celebrity had the weirdest clothes or which drunk had the weirdest excuse, but being a geek, I loved watching people at this year's South by Southwest interact with the weirdest tech.

Doing five nights of SXSW Music with a badge – and really trying to do it – is a crap shoot. It's a search for those musical moments that make it all worthwhile: the threading through the teeming crowds as you travel from club to club and into the venues to try to find a place to hear and watch the act, or just to buy a drink. All in the hope that you might enjoy a few of those transcendent moments that are what we're in it for.

One of the small but useful perks of attending SXSW has been the canvas conference bag they give out when you register. It used to be a swag sack filled with goodies, offers and publications (Lord knows how many bottle openers and sets of earplugs I've accumulated over the years).
