In addition to luring attendees to Austin and trying to lure Austin tech grads to other states, the one thing both SXSWi job fairs offered in abundance was swag.

I don’t often get excited by hardware, but getting to try the Leap Motion Interactive Controller felt like walking right into "Minority Report." Actually, it was even better.

Nate Duval is a Massachusetts poster artist whose colorful and ornamental screenprints have propelled him into a freelance career that has included show posters for mega-bands like Phish. I was able to distract Nate from his SXSW preparations long enough to find out something about the man behind the bright colors and complex patterns.

I’ve heard locals and out-of-towners alike complain about South by Southwest Music. It’s too expensive, you can’t see anything without a badge or wristband, not enough is done to enable locals to go to shows, you spend more time waiting in lines than you do watching bands, etc.

Riding in on the Southern Pacific Railroad into Texas is a creature that is merely trying to calm his appetite brought on by an unknown curse 492 years ago. This monster feeds off the elements of pitch and rhythm. Also the occasional drunk or unknown drifter who dares shout out the song-which-shall-not-be-named, which shall not be spoken of. Of course, I speak of the Violin Monster.

We are told that the public overwhelmingly supports a universal background check on any gun purchase. Such a law would force everyone selling a gun to run a background check on an individual buying a gun in the United States before exchanging the gun for pay.
