Over the coming 10 days of SXSW, some 300,000 visitors will be joining us here in Austin, most of then in and around downtown.

While it remains unclear whether ridesharing service SideCar will manage to effectively operate during SXSW under threats of ticketing and even impounding vehicles, another similar service, Lyft, has a non-problematic solution:

Contrary to the belief of some who only circle the South Sixth hub during South by Southwest, every part of Austin is buzzing with activity during this March madness of another kind. More bands than you can shake a drumstick at perform at venues all over the city.

When trucks started selling tacos on the side of the road, few could’ve predicted that food trailers would be the captivating culinary item they are today. During South by Southwest, there’s seemingly a whole section of the Internet dedicated to making sure you know where to find them.

If you live in Up North, Austin, don’t stock up on MRE’s and DVD’s. This is your city. You have every right to enjoy it. If you live and work in the oft maligned northern hinterlands (aka north of Highway 183), you can still take advantage of a heck of a lot of classic Austin experiences while avoiding the madness downtown that is SXSW.

If you have any common sense at all, you will not attempt to drive downtown to any South by Southwest event.

I wouldn’t say there’s a place to get a quiet beer in Downtown Austin during South by Southwest, but there are certainly places that are quieter than others.

Whoever you are - young or old, SXSW badge-holder or festival-avoider - the Austin Post recommends that you pay a visit to the parking lot across the street to the east of the Convention Center.
