Over the coming 10 days of SXSW, some 300,000 visitors will be joining us here in Austin, most of then in and around downtown.
Contrary to the belief of some who only circle the South Sixth hub during South by Southwest, every part of Austin is buzzing with activity during this March madness of another kind. More bands than you can shake a drumstick at perform at venues all over the city.
When trucks started selling tacos on the side of the road, few could’ve predicted that food trailers would be the captivating culinary item they are today. During South by Southwest, there’s seemingly a whole section of the Internet dedicated to making sure you know where to find them.
If you live in Up North, Austin, don’t stock up on MRE’s and DVD’s. This is your city. You have every right to enjoy it. The music isn't just in the clubs, concert halls, outdoor stages and backyards this SXSW week. It's also on the silver screen. Below are some music documentaries of note that delve into styles and sounds underneath the pop music radar.
Wondering how to jump into the daunting official list of some 2,200 musical artists playing SXSW? This year I tried The Name Game: Glean names that catch your eye, maybe spot some moniker trends, gather 'em together and check 'em out.
This year, I decided to take advantage of the South by Southwest Satellite location at the Alamo Drafthouse Village on Anderson Lane, a short 2 miles from my home.
The Artist Formerly Known as Glyph is the latest last-minute showcase confirmation in what has become the most star-studded SXSW to date. The master of rocking funky soul – who thankfully no longer makes movies. Has anyone seen "Purple Rain" again lately?
