Life isn’t all about networking events and making business connections. Sometimes you need to find like-minded geeks for some relaxing fun. Once a week, we round up the best geek social events in Austin.

This week, you can enjoy a night of steampunk dancing and shenanigans at Elysium, meet other geeks at Here There Be Monsters mini-con, and see some not-quite-bat-men at the Night of the Bat festival.

The Brass Menagerie
August 24, 9:00 p.m.
Elysium Austin
705 Red River St
Strap on your goggles, don that dapper hat, whip our your bustle and hit the town for your local steampunk event! Live music, dancing, vendors and photos.

Austin Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club
August 25, 1:00 p.m.
Monkey Nest Coffee Shop
5353 Burnet Rd
The book club will be discussing “The Wise Man’s Fear” by Patrick Rothfuss. They’ll also be selecting books for future months, so if there’s a book you’ve always wanted to discuss with fellow geeks, this is the time to plug it.

The Austin Doctor Who Meetup
August 25, 1:00 p.m.
Alamo Drafthouse - Slaughter Lane
5701 W. Slaughter Ln
Enjoy a classic episode of Doctor Who on the big screen. The Alamo will be showing “Spearhead From Space,” a Jon Pertwee third doctor episode. This is your chance to meet fellow Whovians just a couple weeks before new episodes come to BBC America.

The 8th Annual Night of the Bat Festival
August 25, 5:30 p.m.
Bat Festival on Congress Avenue Bridge
301 South Congress Ave
Okay, technically this isn’t a Batman festival, but there will be prizes for bat costumes, 75 arts and crafts vendors, food trucks, and, of course, a heck of a lot of dark creatures of the night. Make sure not to kill their parents and they’ll probably grow up to be harmless.

Comic Book Club of Austin
August 25, 7:00 p.m.
BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse
5207 Brodie Lane, Sunset Valley, TX
Marvel or DC? Batman or Spider-Man? Comics, movies, games, cosplay: if you like superheroes, this is the group for you. Whether you're a complete comic noobie or a seasoned veteran, we'd love to meet you and hang out!

Geeks Who Drink Meetup

Pathfinder Society Meetup
August 27, 7:00 p.m.
Dragon's Lair Comics & Fantasy
