Most of the time I try to find an interesting local Kickstarter that hasn’t reached its goal yet, but every now and then it’s fun to be part of something that’s already wildly successful. Jumpshot passed its $25,000 goal and has now moved into the rarified air of six figure Kickstarters. I suspect this is because anyone who sees their jump drive wants one.
Jumpshot is an adorable custom USB thumb drive packed with virus-killing software. As someone who has had malware infections which prevented me from downloading antivirus software, a USB solution has a lot of appeal. The fact that the drives are shaped like adorable custom cartoon characters is a hearty bonus.
Better yet: Jumpshot is designed to clean all the crapware and junk software off new computers. If you just brought home a new machine, this can save you an incredible amount of time and frustration.
This is a brand new product, so unlike Norton or Avira, there aren’t any reviews. The $100,000 in backer money shows how much people want this to work. Clearly, these guys have tapped into a need.
On top of that, their videos and graphics are top notch, the writing is engaging, you get plenty of detail about how they plan to use their funds, and the overall tone makes you feel like Jumpshot is run by the kind of geeks you want to have a beer with.
Their pledge levels are arranged by how much of a discount you get off the retail price once Jumpshot launches. It’s no surprise that the $30 level (a 20% retail discount) has already sold out. However, for $35 (a 15% retail discount) you can get the 8 GB Jumpshot drive in your choice of one of three adorable characters, early access to the software before the physical drive arrives, plus some stickers and temporary tattoos. For $55 you can increase the size of the drive up to 32 GB.
If this is the sort of thing you want to hand out as a holiday present, you can order three of the drives (one of each currently available character) plus two t-shirts, the temporary tattoos, and stickers for $125.
Most of their donation levels revolve around getting the product into people’s hands at an affordable price, but for $10,000 you get to be the next Jumpshot character. You also get 15 of the drives and a night on the town with the founders.
I like this product. I want it to succeed well enough that I’ve bought Sir Jeffrey for myself and look forward to trying out Jumpshot when it arrives in November.

Wondering how our previous Austin Kickstarters did?
Stabil-i-Case is 23% funded. They have another 3 weeks to make around $60,000.
My Education is 84% funded. They’re in the final days of their Kickstarter and need a few hundred more dollars to reach their goal.
The Doctor Who Review Project sadly didn’t reach its goal and therefore didn’t receive funding.
The original Spinferno Kickstarter was cancelled and replaced by a new Spinferno for Android Kickstarter.
